Dorchester County Public Schools is currently accepting applications for Educational Specialists. The educational specialist will serve as a collaborative team member with teachers and the program administrator in working with students.
DUTIES:
- Support teachers in their work with individual students and students in small groups in order to reinforce vocational and independent living skills;
- Assist classroom teacher in classroom behavior management;
- Implement and/or assist teaching staff with instructional programs and activities;
- Monitor and support students in computer assisted activities;
- Maintain high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students;
- Supervision of students in school and community settings;
- Supervision of students during meal times and classroom transition times;
- Participate in staff in-service program as assigned; and
- Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree; preferred in the field of social work, counseling, sociology, psychology or related field;
- Previous experience in a school setting preferred;
- Familiarity with accepted practices and procedures in working with students, to include special education needs;
- Ability to demonstrate a high degree of understanding and acceptance of all children and interest in the education of students with disabilities;
- Ability to follow instructions;
- Ability to accept supervision;
- Abilities to communicate effectively.
