Dorchester County Public Schools is currently accepting applications for Educational Specialists.  The educational specialist will serve as a collaborative team member with teachers and the program administrator in working with students.

DUTIES:

• Support teachers in their work with individual students and students in small groups in order to reinforce vocational and independent living skills;
• Assist classroom teacher in classroom behavior management;
• Implement and/or assist teaching staff with instructional programs and activities;
• Monitor and support students in computer assisted activities;                                  
• Maintain high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students;
• Supervision of students in school and community settings;
• Supervision of students during meal times and classroom transition times;
• Participate in staff in-service program as assigned; and
• Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor’s degree; preferred in the field of social work, counseling, sociology, psychology or related field;
• Previous experience in a school setting preferred;
• Familiarity with accepted practices and procedures in working with students, to include special education needs;
• Ability to demonstrate a high degree of understanding and acceptance of all children and interest in the education of students with disabilities;
• Ability to follow instructions;
• Ability to accept supervision;
• Abilities to communicate effectively.
