Dorchester County Public Schools (DCPS) is currently accepting applications for the position of Varsity Wrestling Assistant Coach at North Dorchester High School (NDHS). DCPS is seeking a highly motivated, successful, and experienced high school assistant wrestling coach to continue all aspects of our program, including: organizing offseason strength and conditioning programs, study hall/tutoring, and assisting athletes to become college and career ready.
DUTIES:
- Provides the proper skills foundation and support for student athletes.
- Plans and schedules practices, to include strengthening and conditioning programs.
- Develops and implements the program budget.
- Recommends the purchase of equipment, supplies, and uniforms as appropriate.
- Oversees the safety conditions of the facility or areas used for the program.
- Establishes standards of conduct, and enforces discipline and sportsmanlike behavior at all times; establishes and oversees penalties for breach of such standards by individual students.
- Teach fundamental skills of sport.
- Verify eligibility, physicals, and insurance coverage for each participant.
- Work with the Athletic Director in scheduling interscholastic contests.
- Responsible for the safety and well being of participants while under direct supervision. Render First Aid where appropriate.
- Maintains uniforms and equipment through a student/parent inventory accountability agreement; maintains an inventory, and secures storage of equipment, supplies, and uniforms; recommends replacement purchases or reconditioning as appropriate.
- Know and comply with local and state handbooks and regulations.
- Submit written evaluation of work to Athletic Director at end of the season.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Coaching eligibility is defined by COMAR 13A.06.03.04.
- Teachers or certificated professional educators employed by the Board of Education, preferred.
- If no acceptable and qualified coaches are available from the teachers or certifiable professional educators employed by the local board of education, temporary emergency coach may be employed if the following procedures are followed:
- The person shall be officially appointed by the local superintendent of schools on a one-season basis for a specific coaching assignment;
- The coaching salary of the appointed coach shall be paid exclusively by the local school system;
- After July 1, 2010, an emergency coach is required to possess an MPSSAA/MSDE coach certification prior to the start of his or her fourth year as an emergency coach;
- Teams having more than one coach, emergency coaches may not comprise more than 50 percent of that sport staff;
- The emergency coach shall be at least 21 years old and possess a high school diploma.
SALARY: Salary based on the Negotiated Agreement Between The Board of Education of Dorchester County and The Dorchester County Educators-Extra Duty Pay. The current minimum compensation is $1,757. |
