Description

Dorchester County Public Schools is currently accepting applications for a High School Mathematics Coach.  Working under the direction of the Supervisor of K-12 Mathematics, this position assists in the delivery of the mathematics programs in high schools by providing the strategies, resources, and instruction that will increase student proficiency on local, state, and college board assessments.

 

DUTIES:  

  • Plan and provide high quality staff development and provide written records of the same.
  • Coach and provide feedback to high school teachers on mathematics instruction related to content and pedagogy.
  • Provide pacing guidance to teachers for teaching a block or yearlong course.
  • Monitor the supplemental resources that are provided to students at the high school level (e.g., IXL).
  • Lead quarterly data review meetings with school improvement teams and/or administration at the high schools.
  • Plan with other mathematics coaches and the Supervisor of Mathematics during designated coaches’ meetings.
  • Provide ongoing support for non-tenured mathematics teachers.
  • Participates in the development of DCPS Mathematics curriculum and assessments under the direction of the content supervisor.
  • Assist with developing resources and materials to support the countywide mathematics program.
  • Attends and presents at professional development meetings at the local, state, and national levels.
  • Attends mathematics MSDE briefings as needed.
  • Remain an active participant in workshops offered by MSDE.
  • Supports school counselors, students, and families with understanding the course offerings for mathematics within the program of study.
  • Perform other duties as required by the Supervisor of Mathematics.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Has obtained, or is eligible for, a Maryland Professional License in Mathematics 7-12.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of successful teaching experience at the appropriate level.
  • Experience as a trainer for staff development to teachers with proven knowledge of current research and best practices in secondary mathematics instruction and content progressions.
  • Knowledge of instructional planning, development, and implementation.
  • Skill in time management, personal organization, and administrative processes.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with central office and school-based staff, students, and their families; and
  • Skill in data analysis, with a focus on improving local, state, and college board assessment scores.
  • Preferred: Specific knowledge of MCCRS for Mathematics, Illustrative Mathematics, and IXL.

SALARY:                   Salary based on the Negotiated Agreement between The Board of Education of Dorchester County and The Dorchester Educators - Teachers (7.5-hour duty day) salary scale.  The current minimum master’s degree salary for 5 years of experience is: $60,581. This is a ten (10) month, full-time benefited position.
