Dorchester County Public Schools is currently accepting applications for potential Elementary Instructional Reading Coach vacancies for the 2024-2025 school year. Working under the direction of the school principal and the Supervisor of Reading/Language Arts Instruction, the Elementary Instructional Reading Coach implements comprehensive, school-based professional development and provides support to teachers at a designated elementary school.
DUTIES:
- Ability to build strong, collaborative relationships with teachers/administrators in a variety of settings to provide support on the full range of Literacy behaviors.
- Plans and delivers reading professional development for teachers at a designated school or at district-level professional development sessions.
- Collaborates with teachers in the development and infusion of reading strategies to increase academic achievement for all students.
- Delivers appropriate instructional support, including planning and modeling of lessons, to staff working with students for differentiation of instruction in reading.
- Disseminates strategies that encourage students to think critically and creatively and to solve problems during reading instruction using reading practices.
- Assists with the development of strategies that support the implementation of the Maryland College and Career Readiness Standards for Reading.
- Assists teachers with the analysis of student achievement data and helps adjust instruction based on the results.
- Assists teachers in implementing interventions to accelerate the progress of students who are performing below grade level in reading.
- Assists with individual reading assessments, as appropriate.
- Participates in the development of DCPS Reading curriculum and assessments under the direction of the content supervisor.
- Assists with developing resources and materials to support the countywide reading program.
- Collaboratively develops curriculum documents and assessments that are aligned with the Maryland College and Career Readiness Standards for Reading.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Has obtained, or is eligible for, a Maryland Advanced Professional Certificate, required, in Elementary Education, Middle School English Language Arts, Reading Teacher, Reading Specialist, or English 7-12.
- Has obtained an education related master’s degree, required.
- Minimum of five (5) years of successful teaching experience at the appropriate level.
- Knowledge of instructional planning, development, and implementation.
- Must obtain LETRS training and become a LETRS Facilitator within 3 years of becoming a coach.
- Knowledge of best practices in reading.
- Skill in time management, personal organization, and administrative processes.
- Ability to communicate effectively with staff, students, and their families.
- Skill in data analysis, with a focus on instructional issues.
- Specific knowledge of the Maryland College and Career Readiness Standards for Reading.
